John McAfee's X Account Starts Promoting AI Token as It Pumps and Dumps

The X account of the colorful cybersecurity persona and founder of the cybersecurity company McAfee, John McAfee, who died in 2021, has started promoting the AIntivirus (AINTI) token, which skyrocketed in price before plummeting hard, leaving the market perplexed.
Earlier today, the account stated, "I'm back with AIntivirus. An AI version of myself. You didn't think I would miss this cycle, did you?" while adding a link to the token's website. In response to doubts that this account may have been hacked, it posted, "John's account has not been hacked. This is the real deal," and promised to provide more information, which, at the time of writing, has yet to materialize.

A community note next to the token announcement emphasizes that there’s no definitive evidence regarding whether the account has been hacked or not.
Meanwhile, the X account of McAfee's wife, Janice Elizabeth McAfee, has a pinned message stating, "I am super excited to announce that I have taken creative control of a product that will expand John's legacy," adding that "a project" has been found that "allows him to participate posthumously." However, the post did not specify any particular project.
Commenters noted that Janice does not "spell honor as honour," and John McAfee already had "his token $whackd tattooed on his arm." Meanwhile, others expressed skepticism about both accounts being hacked simultaneously.
According to the X account of the token itself, it was registered in November 2024 and currently boasts over 8,000 followers. The website claims that the token is "a string of defiance wrapped in cryptographic brilliance. If $AIntivirus represents freedom, privacy, and sticking it to the establishment, then consider it endorsed."
The token appears to be issued on the Solana (SOL) blockchain, with its explorer indicating it now has 14,208 holders and a market capitalization of approximately $16.8 million.
According to Dexscreener data, the price of AINTI surged to nearly $0.80 before collapsing more than 80% within hours. Nevertheless, the price remains up 1550% since its inception.

Recently, the crypto space has witnessed multiple instances of X accounts being compromised to promote scam tokens and rug pulls affecting thousands of crypto traders.
John McAfee was found dead in prison in Spain in June 2021, just hours after a local court approved his extradition to the U.S., where he faced charges of tax evasion. An autopsy confirmed that McAfee died by suicide.
