Leaked Alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO Killer's Manifesto Reveals His Motives
The leaked manifesto of Luigi Mangione, 26, who is charged with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, reveals more about the suspect's motives.
First published by independent journalist Ken Klippenstein, the manifesto, whose legitimacy was confirmed, states that Mangione wasn't "working" with anyone.
"I do apologize for any strife or traumas, but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming," the manifesto reads.
Mangione stresses that the US has the most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet it ranks "roughly #42 in life expectancy."
The suspect didn't provide any official rankings to back this claim. A quick search online provides varying data, ranking the US as 48th or 55th.
The author of the manifesto also claims that UnitedHealthcare grew into one of the biggest companies in the US while life expectancy didn’t improve, despite public data showing otherwise.
Mangione writes that UnitedHealthcare has become too powerful and continues to abuse its power. However, he admits that, while the problem is more complex, he’s not the most qualified person to lay out the full argument. Still, he points to corruption and greed as potential causes of the situation he describes.
"It is not an issue of awareness at this point, but clearly power games are at play. Evidently, I am the first to face it with such brutal honesty," he concluded.
Meanwhile, a notebook found by police, allegedly belonging to Mangione, describes how "you whack the CEO at the annual parasitic bean-counter convention."
“It’s targeted, precise, and doesn’t risk innocents,” per the reports.
Brian Thompson was assassinated on December 4 in front of a Midtown Manhattan hotel. Per media reports, Mangione's defense attorney, Tom Dickey, claims that his client will plead not guilty. Also, according to Dickey, he received offers from people willing to pay for Mangione, who reportedly suffered from back pain, legal defense.
